Hey, my name's Bob, I go by the name Bizmuth. I'm from Rochester, NY. I've been into DJing for about 8 or 9 years, spinning everything, though my favorite style is trip-hop/turntablism stuff like Blockhead, RJD2 and DJ Shadow. I was a so-called "purist" for a long time; I didn't like to spin anything but vinyl and the occasional CD. I'd heard about Ableton, but didn't know what it did, and just brushed it off as nothing special. I started seeing more and more pro DJs (people I really admire) use digital equipment on stage, but I still didn't understand what was happening with the equipment they used. That sparked a desire for me to learn. I took some college classes on MIDI and songwriting, and got into the recording/producing end of things, and started using Logic Pro. I made some remixes, studio DJ sets, and original tracks using samples from vinyl and soft synths from Logic. Logic is absolutely great for studio work, but it is tedious for certain tasks, namely warping tracks (which they changed in the latest version!! trying to copy Ableton perhaps?). I would manually adjust the tempo and chop the tracks to sync them up, and have spent so many hours doing this it's crazy. When I finally tried the demo of Ableton and realized how quickly I could set up grids to a tracks, and how easy it was to custom map a keyboard, I was amazed!!! I bought Ableton 7 LE right away (I plan on upgrading to 8 when I have the $$) and I haven't looked back. My studio mixes have become a joy to make instead of a pain, and my next step is a live performance setup. I have mapped an O2 to work for me, but I really want to build a custom rig with lots of buttons to trigger clips. I have some plans to build an 8x8 grid of arcade buttons to control Ableton 7 LE, and I hope to share it all on this forum. Thanks for reading all this if you did.... haha I can be long-winded!!
