Novation Nocturn - Any way to NOT use Automap?
« on: December 22, 2009, 05:28:28 PM »
I just got the Novation Nocturn for live performance use. The hardware feels pretty good and the size is perfect. However, I didn't realize how unreasonable annoying the Automap software would be... Really... What the F*CK!?

Is there anyway to hack the Nocturn and use it as a normal MIDI controller? Any general MIDI drivers floating around, homebrew or Novation made?

Anyone interested in helping me and all the other frustrated Novation users around the Automap annoyance?

Thanks!

Can you just uninstall or disable the automap software?

At heart, the nocturn should just be sending out plain 'ol midi messages. The automap software is an extra layer of interpretation between your music software and the nocturn. Remove the layer and you will get the raw midi messages from the nocturn.

I have novation's remote sl25 and basically I just erased the automap software from my hard drive, and kept the installer in case I ever did want to use it. This did the trick.

the nocturn is different, it must have automap in order to function, same with the launchpad, neither of these controllers carry any onboard midi data, its all translated to midi data from whatever protocol is coming from the hardware within automap to generate midi going out to your program.

without automap the nocturn and the launchpad are both paperweights.

I came back to correct myself, the nocturn IS DEAD without automap, but the Launchpad apparently has some onboard midi capabilities but needs automap to be modified/customized.

I have owned and discarded a nocturn(little original one, not the keyboard, and its worthless without automap)-dont own a launchpad.
