The Finger...
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:03:44 PM »
NI just emailed me promo hype about this product they're now selling derived from Tim Exile's Reaktor work, called The Finger:

You'll see it's got major overlap with Moldover's controllerism templates. If the NI forum is to be believed, Tim's work a long time ago inspired CList's BeatLookUp.

Issues about credit don't really bother me until they are placed in a commercial context. That is where this Finger thing is - you have to buy it, and you also have to install a bunch of other NI support software at the same time. This isn't a very Reaktor like mentality, where there's a user library that people have shared. I'm also glad Moldover shared his templates and methods with me or I wouldn't have been able to work out my own.

I think the credit thing is also implied within the notes of Clist's version....

I'm cool with paying for it, if the work that goes in is considerable and he's leaving it open source why not make a few bucks out of it, on the other hand 70ish euros for a reaktor patch is a bit steep!

Cheers

i agree entirely.
i watched vids of The Finger in action and was very underwhelmed.
so the guy was showcasing using a whole bunch of midi controllers with audio software?
wow.. that's really nothing new.
funny to think that he had a complete table of hardware to mash up some tracks when he could've got by with a single custom unit, similair to moldover's butchered novation synth :p
