APC40 - Controllerist Patch - Now Universal!!
« on: August 02, 2009, 02:39:14 PM »
Update 9:

Added back the functionality that you'll now be able to use the patch with any controller (however the APC40 works using control surface mapping so no need for hard mapping anything)

In addition been working with JuanSOLO on the racks within it and using live.remotes now you don't get any stutteryness when turning the knobs.....

The best way i use this is to have a dj rack before it (comprising of Tarektih effects including the bottom row of knobs being a dj eq with the twister filter, a phaser, fade2redux and a gain forming the top row) which is then greyed out and controlled by the patch when loaded, this will effect the audion into the patch and then if the same rack is dropped onto every one of the other 8 tracks you have control with 8 knobs over one parameter across all eight tracks quickly switchable by holding down shift (map to the small round button that sits on the shift button) and pressing whichever button you've got mapped to each of the little buttons to the right of the top line of clip stop buttons.... And having just read that back it's a bit of a mouthful so i'll post a video in a bit....

Cheers
D

Update 8:

This update is mainly bugfixing with the ability to choose which of five devices on a track the patch controls, i now place my patch as the second device on a track with my dj rack before and after it, that way i can effect signals going into the patch and those coming out (especially effective to filter the stutering effects within the patch)

Been working with JuanSOLO on an update to the control surface master 8x8 which will bear fruit soon, this gives dynamic control of the reset values and the ability to store presets within the patch, once this is done i'll integrate the functionality within as at the moment jumping between devices seems to impose values on the devices the patch is letting go of control of.....

Anyways the best bit of the new update is the beatrepeats and gaters on scene 4.... Limited to 5 clipstop buttons as i want to move these to the scene launch buttons when somebody anybody can help me to disable the scene launch buttons permanently.....

The gater functions off of the Stop All Clips button and is synced to the last chosen beatrepeat, sounds wicked to me but you make up your own mind....

Been asked if i can make the patch functional again for people who don't have an APC40 so i'll try and get that done if enough people want to give the patch a go.....

Cheers
D

Update 7:

Added the ability to trigger the highlighted clip from scene one, a reverse effect (the fp reverser from max4live.com) to the stop all clips button, scene four has a set of four different beatrepeats on it whilst scene five.....

Recreates what i imagine the finger does.... Fill the first eight sends with effects you like, then in scene five the clip stop buttons route the audio to the 8 sends, the first clip stop button pressed then disables the ability to send the original audio to all 8 sends and have a dramatic increase in volume.... Instead the second, third, fourth, fifth etc. clip stop button pressed will instead control the sends on the first send chosen allowing you to send say the audio to a revrb first and then chain it ino a beat repeat for example.... Completely configurable to the effects you want but chevthewizard and GBSR along with Rus-Audio have put out some pretty fantastic rack effects that can be "played"!

Hi guys,

My set up is on a mac with a padkontrol (running farmpad) an APC40 and bomes and lucifer vst....

Anyone else got a similar set-up?

So far i've remapped all of the scene launch buttons to either glitch the audio (like steven vankoffs video) or whilst shift is pressed to choose the launch quantization and then visually display with a lit button what state it's in....

The track selection buttons light up in sequence and allow beat mashing as they allow you to jump (as long as the button is held down) to each individual beat in a 2 bar sequence....

I have all 8 tracks summed to either a A or B track which contains all of my effects and some loopers, when pressing shift and track select one it fires a looper to record then play a 1 bar loop, 2 = 2 bar, 3 = 4 bar and 4 halves the loop.....

To show that the loopers are in action i've used the clip grid buttons, when recording a beat the pad flashes red and when recorded it stays solid red, when the beat is playing the button changes to green, as such you see how long the looper has recorded (up to the first two rows) and where in the loop it's currently playing... When you halve the loop the clip grid changes to represent the new size of the loop being played until eventually you are down to one rapidly flashing green/red button.......

Because this colouring may stop you seeing which clip is actively being played i've programmed it so that the clip stop button lights up oif there is a clip playing in that channel, pressing stop obviously still stops the clip but when shift is held down at the same time it plays the clip last played from the beginning (this is very useful when your trying to play other clips that aren't included in the same red box!)

Activator switches are now hard mapped to select the first rack in each channel, I'm using a rack per track that includes Tarekiths 4 knob eq along the bottom (the allen and Heath emulating one) knobs and then on knob one i've got the twister filter, phaser on two, fade to redux on three and a gain with a compressor so that it doesn't get out of control on 4.....

When when shift is pressed with an activator switch it reverts the controls in that track's rack back to their original state, eg. at full for the eq'ing controls at half for the twister filter controls and at zero for the phaser, fade to redux and gain controls.... This means at the start of a set i can quickly reset all controls back to zero and when playing can bring the track that's been filtered and eqed out of a mix back in bang on a beat.....

solo cue switches do as advertised but with shift pressed they select the clip playing in the track rather than the clip that's highlighted..... I currently split all my tracks up into sections and pre-prepare my loops but i'm sure someone else who plays whole tracks would be able to use this function to implement some in clip looping functionality....

Finally the Track arm buttons are mapped to light up when the track is routed into A or unlit if going to B, i've got A and B mapped to the crossfader as well as i find it hard to give up my old habits! I'm probably going to add a shift function to these buttons to be a quick stab on a send that's got a ping pong and distorting effect rack in it to get some crashes going in sync with the audio......

I've not really touched the buttons on the right hand side of the APC yet (bar the shift button) so has anyone else got any ideas for what i might use these for?

I'll try and record a little video later to show what i mean but for now i'm really missing a tape stop effect that i want to map to the stop all clips button!! Mac anyone???

Cheers

took me like a month to figure out moldovers...but so far this is pretty cool...lots of buttons to press and it definitely makes the apc more functional than the original template.

thanks again m8

saracen...i have a question....you know how you have the activation buttons set to choose a tracks effects at the bottom....and how they also activate/deactivate the track....and if you're playing 2 different tracks how do you select one or the others effects if it deactivates the entire track? i dont know if what i wrote makes sense lol

Hi there mate, it shouldn't be deactivating the tracks!!

Have a look at the bottom of the rules in bomes in the from APC40 preset, there should be a translator that's called pass all....

MAke sure the swallow midi messages button is ticked and let me know if that solves it....

That is stellar. I am planning on getting an APC, but I'm not going to get ableton until I can check out Renoise 2.5. The CDM guys reallllly talked it up, and for 15% of the price of Ableton I think it's worth a shot. Have you guys tried Renoise? I understand that the clip launching part is brand new so it's not an alternative to ableton as of yet.

Howdy, well the from APC pass all was already activated and so was the swallow action....how ever in the "loop to APC40" the pass all was unchecked...i checked it and it seemed to solve the problem...HOWEVER lol...the 'record arm' buttons now dont work lol... :-)
