I'd say that save for a small handful of people, everyone is here to learn controllerism. I'd say that the equipment that you have should be perfect for getting yourself started. The thing to understand is that controllerism is almost like DJing in that you're mixing different tracks together to create a new song (on it's most basic level). But controllerism, allows us to control things via a midi controller. Which in my opinion allows for a much larger set of options that you can utilize to mix and create things in your own way.

My advice is to experiment. Just continue trying to accomplish what you think up. Like, try to imagine how you want something to sound, and see if you can reproduce that within the program. I used to use FL Studio only, but after some time, I realized that it actually does have quite a few drawbacks, although, I've also noticed that it has it's definitely pluses. but the cons outweigh the pros for me. So I hiiiiighly recommend Ableton Live. Live Lite will work fine to a point, but I believe down the road you'll want more. So experiment with what you have. The only way you can go is up, so why not.

I noticed that you said you don't really have much experience in Djing. Just remember to take your time with each thing. Learn about your controllers, read the manuals for any questions you have from just LOOKING at the controller or the program. Then once you read it, you'll have that background knowledge, and you can experiment with more confidence, which really goes a long way. I hope that helps at least a bit.
